It isn't unusual for tens and even hundreds of bats to live in a space for years before they are discovered. Eventually they are found by the owners and we are asked to remove them. When bats have been in a building for a period of time, naturally they leave bat waste ('guano' and urine) in the areas where they have lived. In the case of modern homes this is usually means the attic and the insulation therein. Sometimes it can be across entire attics.
Bats as an animal are usually considered beneficial to humans because they consume many insects, notably mosquitos, While this is true, their waste can sometimes cause health hazards and other uncomfortable conditions for homeowners,
