There are a wide variety of bats found in the United States. The most common in our area are the Small and Big Brown varieties.
These animals are very small, weighing only ounces. They are active after dark during the warmer months and hibernate over the winter. Intrusions are often detected by the homeowner hearing scratching sounds or finding droppings as evidence on patios or porches. They can enter a structure through holes as small as 1/4", but do little real damage to buildings other than leaving their droppings and in fact can be benificial outdoors by helping control insects.
